Getting Back to Worship

Too often I confuse church-related-busyness with worship. I have reached that point again recently, excusing my lack of personal worship time by telling myself that it is only because I am spending so much time preparing to minister to my students at school and preparing Sunday school lessons for church. The other day I was sorting through some old files on my computer, and I came across a poem/song I wrote during a similar time in my life some eight years ago as a senior in high school. It served as a reminder to stop my busyness and simply worship. It also convicted me that I still make some of the same mistakes I made as a new believer.

I Worship You

Another day has ended
With the setting of the sun,
And I pray for forgiveness
For the evil things I've done.
I pray for protection,
That I would make it through the night,
And I pray for all the battles
That I will have to fight.
But the one thing
That I forget to do
Is to lay down my desires
And simply worship you.

I worship You, Father,
For the love You've shown to me.
I worship You, Jesus,
For setting my soul free.
I worship You, Spirit,
For the comfort that You give.
I worship You, my God, my Rock, and my Salvation,
For without You I don't think I could live.

My life becomes so busy,
And I think its all for You.
Church, Youth Group, and Bible studies
Are all I seem to do.
But in the midst of all my planning
From my mind one thing has slipped,
I can never fully please You
Without time to worship.

I worship You, Father,
For calling me Your own.
I worship You, Jesus,
For giving up Your throne.
I worship You, Spirit,
For filling me each day.
I worship You, my God, my Rock, and my Salvation,
And in Your arms is where I long to stay.

You are God and I am lowly man,
But You have made me one with You,
And so my soul will always worship
For what else can it do?

I worship You, Father,
For the love You've shown to me.
I worship You, Jesus,
For setting my soul free.
I worship You, Spirit,
For the comfort that You give.
I worship You, my God, my Rock, and my Salvation,
For without You I don't think I could live.

I worship You, my God, my Rock, and my Salvation,
For without You I don't think I could live.
